  1. Lou Henson retires

New Mexico coach Lou Henson retires due to health reasons. I heard about him coaching basketball games from a wheelchair. Great story. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=1972862

  2. Any figure skating fans here?

I don't understand the new scoring system (the 6.0 system is being discontinued). It was very sad that the skater Angela Nicodinov's mother was killed in a car accident on the way from the airport to the arena. So touching to see Angela there at the rink supporting her teammates, and how they would look up at her and wave or give a thumbs-up when they finished their programs. Michelle Kwan was good, although not up to her usual excellence. Sasha Cohen has continued her inconsistency....

  3. Question for St Johns Basketball Fans

Hey I was wondering what you guys think of Coach Roberts so far. He was an assistant here last year (University of Kansas) and was a really cool guy. Always accomodating to the student media and always friendly on campus. I think he recruited Russell Robinson to KU, who's having a fantastic freshman year. Anyways I think it's a great hire and hopefully he'll help out with the NYC recruiting pipeline.

  5. Dog delays Orlando game

I cracked up when I heard this on the radio: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1970013 ORLANDO, Fla. -- Who didn't let the dog out? A stink was raised during halftime of the Detroit Pistons-Orlando Magic NBA game on Tuesday night when the start of the second half was delayed by three minutes after a seeing-eye dog relieved itself on the court. The dog was with a charity organization, Canine Companions for Independence, that was receiving a $10,000 donation from the Orlando...

  6. NHL: Union head tells players to look for new jobs

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=1967807 NHL players have been told not to expect the league to resume play this season, and possibly next season, according to a report in the Ottawa Sun. Sources told the paper Friday that NHL Players' Association executive director Bob Goodenow told players they not only should accept any current job offers in Europe immediately, they should take offers for next season, as well. The message was delivered via an audio recording posted on the...

  7. Want to make some money?

Its taken years for me to come up with this system. In the last two weeks in college ball betting 'against the spread' I have gone 28-9 In the NFL 8-3 What I'm doing is this: What have the 2 teams done, home team today-road team today......AGAINST THIS SPREAD.....for the last 3 years. Total record regardless of who they are playing. An example would be the Jets game against the niners week before last.

  11. NY Giants win!

A seven-year-old NY boy was at the center of a courtroom drama this morning when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents so the judge awarded custody to his aunt. The boy confirmed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and refused to live there.

  13. Why golf?

I got this e-mail from a buddy and thought it was pretty fitting: Why golf? This is intended not to upset fans of tennis, basketball, football or baseball. It is, rather, an attempt to put everything in its proper perspective. Ever wonder why golf is growing in popularity and why people who don't even play go to tournaments or watch it on TV? The following truisms may shed some light: Golf is an honorable game, with the overwhelming majority of players being honorable people who...

  17. USC vs Oklahoma

Alright kids. I know there are several smart, intelligent, knowledgeable sports fans and also some OU fans as well (JUT KIDDING). But I thought we could have a thread to debate the upcomming slugfest. I'd like to direct my first comment to Misti (I think she said it??) regarding USC getting all the awards yet OU will win the game. I'm thinking OU has gotten more awards this year than USC....no?

  19. Gretzky...Cause of hockey's problems?

A few years ago when I was still in school, I wrote a paper about the impact of Gretzky being traded from Edmonton to LA. This was at the height of hockey's popularity and naturally, expansion. I argued that Gretzky going to LA, a warm climate big market, opened the door for hockey to gain prominance outside of Canada and the northern US, the traditional hockey "hotbeds." Now we were seeing pro hockey all over California, in Arizona, Texas, Florida, Atlanta, Carolina, etc. But with...

  20. <Sigh> Notre Dame loses again

Boy oh boy, they came out flat as a pancake, 7-0 before ESPN even got there (Independance Bowl took forever), 14-0 before they could say hello, and turn your sets off there. Another ugly bowl loss for my Irish, not only do they seem to lose bowl games every year, they really tank in 'em. :( I wonder, as weird as it sounds, if the players wanted an ugly loss, sort of to show the University up for firing Ty, many of the players were really pissed when that was announced. :dunno:
