  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: The First Name Thread

There are a bunch of people who frequent this Forum who's first name I know. There are countless others that I have no idea what their first name is. Couple that with the hundreds upon hundreds of new people who have registered that would have no idea who people are... I thought it would be a good idea for a Thread where people (who wish to divulge this information) give their first name. This is not to be a joke Thread, please be serious and only respond if you wish to give your name. ...

  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: The Ask anything about computers thread

I have seen we have various threads about computer help, what to buy? various terms, differences between MAC and PC, I made this thread for anyone that wants some of us with computer experience to answer some of those who need some advice or help trouble shooting.. Jason

  3. Sticky Thread Sticky: Thanks, Bub!

So today I made a change that I knew was coming for quite a while: at his own request, Bub has been made a regular, non-admin, member of the NYYF community. Bob has been hugely responsible for the tenor and success of this site. He even delayed his retirement from NYYF Adminship for a year to help keep track of new users and other site matters. The role of "Administrator" here on the forum is something I protect quite closely, and Bob is the only other person I've given those keys to. He has...

  1. President Donald Trump

I closed down the Election 2016 thread, but have opened this one to discuss the POTUS. I must be a glutton for punishment. About 95% of the complaints I get via IM are from that one thread. A similar percentage of “reported posts” also come from that thread. However, it’s generated over 37,000 entries. Our community clearly sees value in a political discussion. So, we can let it continue. GROUND RULES Keep it courteous and respectful. Disagree all you want, but watch the...

  2. Barcelona Terrorist Attack - 13 Dead, 80 injured

There are no words to properly describe this latest terrorist attack that happened in Barcelona. Thoughts and sympathy are with those who are suffering over the loss and injury of loved ones. I cannot imagine all the pain and suffering they're going through, caused by this horrific attack against all of humanity. Well, actually I can. On 9/11, I lost loved ones to barbaric, inhuman creatures as well. Let's hope the count doesn't go up. ...

  3. SNL is BACK Baby!

The last few weeks have been reay good. The Weekend Updates superb Tina Fey and the cake - LOL The Scaramuccio episode was funny and the Trump sons right on target. John Oliver hits the nail squarely on the head too. If you are one dwindling numbers of Trump supporters don't bother. They'll ruin your day. ;-)

Google Chrome is blocking the "The "I just saw a movie that doesn't warrant its own thread" (Version 2.0)" thread to me: where I can't view or reply to the thread anymore. In case anyone else has that problem I thought maybe we should start a new thread here... Version 3.0

  8. Can More People Hit a HR or Dunk a Basketball?

This was a question that Deadspin asked today. I feel the answer is so obviously HR - and to be clear, it's a BP HR, not a HR off a 95 MPH fastball. I'd like to make this a poll, but I have no idea how.

  9. Non-Presidential News Stories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread Thread

I closed the Election 2016 thread, because it’s clearly old news. In its place, I opened a thread to discuss the President, and I’m opening this one to discuss Current Events that don’t necessarily center around the President. Often, the Election thread went off on tangents. I’m thinking of this as a stand-alone thread to be a home for those tangent discussions. When the discussion gets around to politics, the same ground rules will apply as I stated in the President Trump thread: ...

  12. Healthcare

We've spun off on a pretty significant tangent in the Trump thread. Let's move the discussion of the GOP health care plan here. I'll go first. ObamaCare is, in my opinion, an abject failure. It forced all Americans to purchase a commercial product, something our government has not previously done. The Supreme Court's decision to allow it was dubious, as the Court came up with its own language to interpret the word "fine" to really mean "tax" to keep the legislation within...

  14. National Parks

Periodically, I've opened up new threads when one of the political threads spins off on a tangent. A few people have been talking recently about our National Parks, and I thought a completely non-political discussion of these gems might be fun. Where have you been? Where are you hoping to go? Which have been your favorites, and why? If you're heading to any of our National Parks or Monuments this Summer, make sure to thank a Ranger. They're grossly underpaid, and get screwed regularly...

  16. What are you reading in 2017?

New thread for the new year I guess. I'm 90% sure none of my history classes in HS or college even mentioned Henry Wallace. Seems like a cool guy. Just ordered American Dreamer: A Life of Henry A. Wallace. It's also way past time to read a good Teddy Roosevelt biography. If anyone has a suggestion on that front, I'd be glad to hear it.

  17. The Real World/The Challenge Thread

Now this might wind up being a thread for just me and Rhodey. But I think at this point this should deserves it's own thread that we can go back to every time a new season starts up. As per usual, previews of this season show that there will be lots of fighting/crying/hookups/drama. The format for the new season is that former exes have been paired up as teammates and will be forced to work together. As a CT fan I will be pulling for CT and Diem, but I would be surprised to see Abram...

  18. We Cast The Dark Tower (Pt 3)

Next up - Roland's original Ka-tet (with a short description for each): Cuthbert Allgood Cuthbert is Roland Deschain's childhood best friend. Cuthbert is characterized by his outwardly flippant, care-free view of the world. He constantly makes jokes, often testing the nerves of his companions. He is notably skilled with a sling-shot. Alain Johns Alain is described as being stout with blond hair. He is calm, reserved and often plays the role of level-headed mediator between ever...

  19. Quiz Show

Just for fun in the days of August with the Astros and Dodgers pretty much a foregone conclusion, how about some trivia questions. Always fun at a bar after a few drinks. :-) 1. Do fish drink water? 2. Why do people yell GERONIMO when jumping? 3. In the Australian song, what does Waltzing Matilda mean? No peeking. Try a guess and then add some more.
