  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: The Ask anything about computers thread

I have seen we have various threads about computer help, what to buy? various terms, differences between MAC and PC, I made this thread for anyone that wants some of us with computer experience to answer some of those who need some advice or help trouble shooting.. Jason

  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: The First Name Thread

There are a bunch of people who frequent this Forum who's first name I know. There are countless others that I have no idea what their first name is. Couple that with the hundreds upon hundreds of new people who have registered that would have no idea who people are... I thought it would be a good idea for a Thread where people (who wish to divulge this information) give their first name. This is not to be a joke Thread, please be serious and only respond if you wish to give your name. ...

  3. Sticky Thread Sticky: ATTENTION EVERYONE – New Community Standards

Big news - our revised Community Standards are finally online. Please access them on the footer of the page, towards the right-hand edge..... The main point of differentiation between NYYFans and most other sports forums is the sense of community that has been fostered here, since our site was founded many years ago. In order to maintain this atmosphere, we must hold posters to certain basic expectations when participating here..... To this end, we will be conducting a relaunch of our...

  1. Non-Presidential News Stories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread Thread

I closed the Election 2016 thread, because it’s clearly old news. In its place, I opened a thread to discuss the President, and I’m opening this one to discuss Current Events that don’t necessarily center around the President. Often, the Election thread went off on tangents. I’m thinking of this as a stand-alone thread to be a home for those tangent discussions. When the discussion gets around to politics, the same ground rules will apply as I stated in the President Trump thread: ...

  2. The "TV shows that don't warrant their own thread" thread

One for the movies and now one for TV shows :D Anyone watch "Psych", the new show on USA? I like it quite a bit. It's pretty funny. Also, anyone watch Hell's Kitchen?

  3. President Donald Trump

I closed down the Election 2016 thread, but have opened this one to discuss the POTUS. I must be a glutton for punishment. About 95% of the complaints I get via IM are from that one thread. A similar percentage of “reported posts” also come from that thread. However, it’s generated over 37,000 entries. Our community clearly sees value in a political discussion. So, we can let it continue. GROUND RULES Keep it courteous and respectful. Disagree all you want, but watch the...

  7. What are you reading 2018?

I'm 900 pages in to "Oathbringer". I really like Sanderson but these Stormlight books (this is the 3rd of a planned 10) are all too long. I'm also currently listening to "Winter of the World" the second volume of Ken Follett's Century Trilogy. It's very very well researched and the way he weaves these 5 fictional families into the events leading up to and during WWII is amazing. He's still not the most prolific writer as his books read more like a manual than true prose, but I'm still...

Google Chrome is blocking the "The "I just saw a movie that doesn't warrant its own thread" (Version 2.0)" thread to me: where I can't view or reply to the thread anymore. In case anyone else has that problem I thought maybe we should start a new thread here... Version 3.0

  9. Let's Talk Podcasts, What Do You Listen To?

I am a rabid fan of Comedy Bang Bang (saw them live two weeks ago here in DC). I also enjoy a few other things on the Earwolf Network like Ronna & Beverly, Sklarbro Country and Hollywoord Handbook. On the comedy front I also listen to Real Time, Doug Loves Movies and You Made it Weird (by the way Pete Holmes new show on TBS is fantastic). The popculture podcasts I really like are Firewall & Iceberg and Hollywood Prospectus. For political podcasts, I listen to Slate's Political Gabfest, the...

  12. Aretha Franklin, First Lady of Soul, passes at 76

Good morning. Today, we have lost a true member of music royalty. Aretha Franklin, who was honored as both the Queen of Soul and the First Lady of Soul, has left us. R-I-P :( :( :( Her appeal, the gift of her gospel-trained voice will forever be something that many have played at home, on the radio, parties, etc for approximately 50 years. Such class, such grace, having made so many lovely songs which people just loved. A very beautiful human being indeed. Goodbye, Aretha. May God...

  14. Healthcare

We've spun off on a pretty significant tangent in the Trump thread. Let's move the discussion of the GOP health care plan here. I'll go first. ObamaCare is, in my opinion, an abject failure. It forced all Americans to purchase a commercial product, something our government has not previously done. The Supreme Court's decision to allow it was dubious, as the Court came up with its own language to interpret the word "fine" to really mean "tax" to keep the legislation within...

Michael Avenatti is in Iowa testing the waters to see if there is support for him to mount a presidential bid. Numerous media outlets are reporting that he is serious about running. What do you think?

  17. Education

Once upon a time, we had a thread on Education. I can't seem to find it...it was likely in the old Political Soapbox. Regardless, increasingly, we've seen discussion of education show up in the Election thread. Probably not the right venue. So, allow me to create a space to discuss our educational system. Is what we're doing in Public Education the right route? Should we have educational standards? Is it OK to leave some children behind? What should we be doing, as a society, to...

  18. Hurricane Season 2018

I think this predicted to be a "slow" hurricane season which is good given FEMA's don't call us policy that seems to be in place. That said a Cat 5 Hurricane Lane (who would name a Hurricane - Lane - honestly who comes up with these names) could be headed for Hawaii right now. Oh personally I hope it passes to the west of the Islands because you know Hawaii is surround by water - big water - like an ocean - and we all know how well that went with Puerto Rico last year.

OK, I apologize in advance. I am well aware that blowing your own horn is in bad taste, but since this is a special occasion, I will do it anyhow. Today is my Wife, Nancy, and my 55th Wedding anniversary. The years have been kinder to us than we (I) deserve. We have been blessed with five fine kids and twelve magnificent grandkids. I consider myself to be extremely fortunate to have as my wife the finest Woman that I have ever met. I have suffered with many of you through many...
