  1. Harry Reid-urgent prayers/thoughts needed

Please do not turn this into a political thread. Please. http://news.yahoo.com/sen-reid-taken-hospital-vegas-car-crash-205125459.html Photo (doesn't look bad, at least in this photo)

  2. The off-season film fest

Last off season, I watched 15 gritty-1970's-New-York movies in my non-Yankee time. This off-season, I need a new film fest theme -- or several. 1980's-New-York movies just don't quite have the same impact. The best I can come up with now is something like 10 L.A. noir movies or 10 Yakuza movies. Maybe 10 Spencer Tracy movies I have not yet seen. What film fests would you recommend? (No porn, Sam. I'm after MPAA-rated movies!)

  4. Most Recognizable Celebrity Voices

Okay - it's the offseason for Yankee fans anyway...so time for some odd threads. :D I just saw Dennis Haysbert being interviewed and I find his voice so recognizable in the Allstate commercials...I absolutely loved him as President David Palmer on 24. I guess the most obvious to me is James Earl Jones....what are some voices that you find instantly recognizable?

  5. iPhone vs Android

So this came up and got a tiny bit heated in the game thread last night so I'll just create a thread here instead... What do you have and what do you think is better? I personally have an iPhone 5 because I like the simplicity of it- I work IT and do enough tweaking at work and don't want to have to worry about it on my phone. It's nice that it just works, even if it doesn't have as many features... the features it does have usually just work more smoothly (sans this whole maps thing,...

  8. RIP George McGovern

Age 90. Probably one of the best (in my opinion, of course) losing presidential candidates.

  9. NYYFans, my parents and I need your help...

Hey everyone. It's come to point in my life that I'm using the internet forums I've posted on for years, hoping I can get any help from my fellow NYYFaners. You may have seen my posts about my father in the past, but here it goes again. If you are interested in hearing my full story in detail, shoot me a PM, I'd be glad to tell you there. For this post, I will keep it as 'cliffnote' as possible. My father suffered a major stroke in two years ago (paralyzed on the right side of his body:...

  10. The Favorite NYC Restaurant thread

As someone that likes to try lots of different types of restaurants, I figured this thread would be good. So what is everyone's favorite pizza place? Thai? Burger? Steak? Chinese? Mexican? etc. I'll start it up. My favorite pizza place is Difara's in Brooklyn. It's truly amazing, but if you go, prepare to wait for a while before you get the pizza. A close second is Denino's in Staten Island. I plan on trying Totonno's soon. Favorite thai is Nusara in Queens because they...

  11. Poll: Do you wear sweatpants often?

Yes I know it's the post-season but I got a kick out of hearing this on the news this morning. Philadelphians Wear More Sweatpants Than Anybody, Says Study Read more: http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/10/10/philadelphians-wear-more-sweatpants-than-anybody-says-study/#ixzz290cfudDS Philly is first, Hartford is second. I never used to wear them but I do lately esp if it's cold. They are called, "I've given up pants" in my house. Do you wear them? How often?

  18. John Flaherty was on our flight to Spain yesterday

The hubby and I are in Barcelona right now. I'm on vacation and he's on a working vacation. Anyway, we had settled into our seats on the flight when I spotted John Flaherty walking onto the airplane. He sat in coach somewhere behind us. I don't think anybody on the plane recognized him. If they did, they certainly didn't bother him. He looks like a typical retired athlete in good shape! ;) And, for the guys, his wife was great looking, too!
