  2. Happy Hanukkah

To all my Jewish friends (aka, members of the Tribe), I give you your own thread dedicated to the religion where the Torah is read, a strict diet is enforced, and for which there have been many adherents. Whether you are Reform, Conservative, Orthodox or ultra-Orthodox, I say to one and all: Happy Hanukkah On this 2nd day of the 8-day Festival of Lights, please enjoy. Shalom

  4. RIP, Marion Pritchard.

If you don't know who she is, read this. Everyone should know. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/23/world/europe/marion-pritchard-rescuer-of-jews.html?_r=0 Read the whole article. She was amazing.

  5. What are you reading 2016?

Didn't see if there was a new thread for books in 2016 so I'm starting it. Currently reading The Pentagon's Brain: An Uncensored History of DARPA, America's Top Secret Military Research Agency and when I want something lighter I have When to Rob a Bank which is a collection of blog posts by the guys behind Freakonomics. Finally I'm listening to the audiobook of Wolf Hall which I'm finding very hard to follow. Has anyone else read it?

  6. iPhone 7

The keynote starts in an hour. Rumor has it that this will be a ho-hum, version, with the big changes coming next year on the iPhone 8. The iPhone 7 is rumored to bring a faster processor (which is always the case), better camera, and a haptic home button. There will still be a home button, but rather than it being physically depressed, it will only give the perception that it is through touch force. Also, it appears that Apple is doing away with the speaker jack, the phone now utilizing...

  8. Westworld HBO series

I figure there's enough of us watching and talking about it for it's own thread. I really enjoy it so far but the biggest complaint is how noncommital they are with the rules of the park. Luckily the internet exists. http://www.slashfilm.com/westworld-logistical-questions-answered/ Then there's 8 Westworld theories from the first two episodes: http://www.slashfilm.com/westworld-theories/

Yeah, I know, but it's the off-season. Which model do you have and love? I'm looking at Sharks. I'd like a Dyson, but they're out of my price range. I don't want to spend more than $200.

  13. Have you ever had a bad breakup from a long term relationship?

I've told my close friends and I don't wanna go sharing on facebook, so I figure I'd tell you folks since I feel closer to you than a lot of other people (even those of you I hate  ). Last Sunday night I caught my girlfriend of 4 years cheating on me. I was actually gonna propose to her this Christmas. It's been 4 days since I've left her and it's not getting any better for me. I feel completely ruined and lost. All I can think about is how perfect our relationship was our first two...

  14. Where were you on November 22, 1963?

Not an entirely fair question for most of you who weren't around then. On that Friday my wife, Nancy, and I had been married for four months. We both had agreed not to have a TV so that we can better get to know each other more. We were living in a small three room apartment in Somerville, NJ. We were both working at Johns Manville Research Center in Finderne. That lunchtime we went home together for lunch . When we returned from lunch at around 1:30 PM we saw a group of our colleagues...

  17. Hoboken Train Crash

Has anyone been watching this train accident? :( A friend of mine from work was on the train and is on the way to the hospital with thankfully mostly cuts/bruises, bloody nose, etc. but the pictures are insane. They said the train never slowed down at all and the station itself was what stopped the train. :( The canapies and supporting beams have come down. It's a popular hub that links NJ Transit, PATH and the light rail for those not in the area. 3 people confirmed dead. I wonder...

  18. Sam18 needs 2 minutes of your time [serious]

Hello everyone, I work for a company making greeting cards and we need some data on people's greeting card purchasing habits, so we made a simple survey to gather that data. If you would be so kind to fill it out I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you. https://goo.gl/forms/fVGP3QTgg1uGZT1K2

  20. Arnold Palmer passes

Arnie died yesterday in a Pittsburgh hospital awaiting heart surgery. He was a (seemingly) robust man at 87. The golf (and the whole) world will miss this charismatic man. I remember in the 60's when the world was entranced and entertained by Arnie, Gary Player, Jack Nicklas and Chi Chi Rodriguiz. Man they were competitive and entertaining. Arnie led a great life. I think I'll have an "Arnold Palmer" drink in celebration of him. In the early days of his career he was terrified of...
