  1. Name a Tune

This game starts with a poster putting up the name of a song and who recorded it. The next poster uses a word from the preceding song title to post a new song, and so on. Example: First poster: Drive My Car - The Beatles Next poster: Fast Car - Tracy Chapman I'll start the game with:

  2. Education

Once upon a time, we had a thread on Education. I can't seem to find it...it was likely in the old Political Soapbox. Regardless, increasingly, we've seen discussion of education show up in the Election thread. Probably not the right venue. So, allow me to create a space to discuss our educational system. Is what we're doing in Public Education the right route? Should we have educational standards? Is it OK to leave some children behind? What should we be doing, as a society, to...

  3. Where do you fall on the political spectrum? Two tests:

I remember we did this years ago. Here's the most popular one: https://www.politicalcompass.org/test It measures economic/left right as well as general attitudes towards authority, tradition, social issues, and government. For context, they rank political figures as follows: Historical: 2016 General 2008 Primary

  4. National Parks

Periodically, I've opened up new threads when one of the political threads spins off on a tangent. A few people have been talking recently about our National Parks, and I thought a completely non-political discussion of these gems might be fun. Where have you been? Where are you hoping to go? Which have been your favorites, and why? If you're heading to any of our National Parks or Monuments this Summer, make sure to thank a Ranger. They're grossly underpaid, and get screwed regularly...

Why? In God's name, why? Ok that's 2 questions, but I just don't get it. Never have.

  8. Let's Talk Podcasts, What Do You Listen To?

I am a rabid fan of Comedy Bang Bang (saw them live two weeks ago here in DC). I also enjoy a few other things on the Earwolf Network like Ronna & Beverly, Sklarbro Country and Hollywoord Handbook. On the comedy front I also listen to Real Time, Doug Loves Movies and You Made it Weird (by the way Pete Holmes new show on TBS is fantastic). The popculture podcasts I really like are Firewall & Iceberg and Hollywood Prospectus. For political podcasts, I listen to Slate's Political Gabfest, the...

  9. The Official Weather Thread - 2017

74 degrees here in the Albany area on February 24. Honey bees are out and about. Nice for walking outdoors, but not good for the maple syrup producers, or the skiers and snowmobiles. Hope the cold air gets back before the fruit trees think about blossoming early.

Anyone getting married today? Or heading to Vegas or a casino? Today may be your "lucky" day! : http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/07/07/LUCKYDAY.TMP&tsp=1 "It's been hailed as the luckiest day of the century, a time to take chances on love and lottery tickets and all things uncertain. 12. Mlb.tv

So I got the MLB package online this year because you can't do Extra Innings month to month and I am moving in July. I got the high end plan which is supposed to have DVR-like features but every time I go to use it, it doesn't work. Does anyone else have this? That said, the picture is great.

  15. We Cast The Dark Tower (Pt 3)

Next up - Roland's original Ka-tet (with a short description for each): Cuthbert Allgood Cuthbert is Roland Deschain's childhood best friend. Cuthbert is characterized by his outwardly flippant, care-free view of the world. He constantly makes jokes, often testing the nerves of his companions. He is notably skilled with a sling-shot. Alain Johns Alain is described as being stout with blond hair. He is calm, reserved and often plays the role of level-headed mediator between ever...

  16. Big week for me. (And that is the understatement of the decade)

Next Wednesday I will undergo six hours of tests and interviews to determine my viability to be placed on the kidney transplant list. To say this is one of the most important days of my life is an understatement. Not getting on it means I continue on dialysis as long as it works and then that is it as they say. My doctor believes that I will get on as all my numbers are where they should be (for someone with kidney failure). Today I found out two of the pre-tests were waived! Either way I won't...

Yeah, I know, but it's the off-season. Which model do you have and love? I'm looking at Sharks. I'd like a Dyson, but they're out of my price range. I don't want to spend more than $200.
