Roger Clemens' mother died early Wednesday, and the Houston Astros ace planned to pitch later that night in her honor.

Bess Clemens died at 4:30 a.m. in Georgetown, Texas, because of complications from emphysema, the Astros said. She was 75.

I send my condolences to the Clemens family and wish them all the best. I remember when she attended Rogers first attempt at 300 and she was very sick then. She also threw out the first pitch in August 2003.

Rocket is sure to be pitching with a heavy heart tonight because he loved his mother very much. Rest in peace, Bess and go get them Roger.

I have often compared Clemens to 7 time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher in temperment, physiical conditioning and controversies on the field. They share another one.. Schumacher lost his mother in 2003 just hours before the San Marino Grand Prix. He went out and won a race he had to have. Clemens did so last night. R.I.P. and condolences.

I had the pleasure of guarding her during the 99 WS parade and after 5 minutes with her you could tell where Rodger got his fiestyness from !! RIP !!
