I really can see this Angels team fading as the season goes on. Yes, they can bash. Yes, that bullpen is pretty damn good (although I have my doubts about Percival this year.) But their starting staff is just not that good. Is anyone afraid of Colon, Washburn, Lackey, Sele and Co.? I sure as hell am not.

Once Anderson and Salmon come back, they have the major league ready young players to trade for starting pitching.

Rich, they do have some young talent. But I don't see many arms out there who can really make a difference. I am really not sure Seattle will trade Garcia to the Angels, considering they play in the same division. Would Randy Johnson go to the Angels? Not sure. Other than that, who is really out there? Kris Benson? Nothing that would make a big impact IMO.

Different rooms for TV and comp, runnin back and forth.....Pedro baffles me. As we saw to end that inning, he IS capable of turning it on when he needs to (fastballs in the low to mid 90's nonstop with 2/3 no out). But if he is capable, why not more often or earlier in the game? I honestly don't know. Its as if he just cannot get himself warmed up for the first few innings of games. That seems to be a consistent trend all year so far. We shall see what happens....catch y'all in a bit. This is gonna be a wild one for sure.

No, George wanted his homeboy, Sheff.

And Vlad didn't want "us"....and made that pretty clear last year before the season was even over....In any case...I think we've both (Yankees/Angels) come away with a pretty good deal.

Btw..."George" is from Cleveland....so if you're gonna get a 'homeboy' lets go after Omar Vizquel....to play 2B....:)

That's not the what I've read. They never made him an offer.

According to all reports, Cashman and Michael wanted Vlad, but the Tampa contingent wanted Sheff. Ultimately, George let the NY faction pick the pitchers, while he and his group picked the hitters (except for A-Rod, who was a consensus pick).

There were reports in the NY papers that Vlad would have signed here. Remember the old days when George would court a prospective free agent. Why not try that? Show him the Latin neighborhoods; convince him that his mom would be happy here; have Jeter and Bernie call him. That never happened.

George left Cleveland in the rear view mirror. Tampa is now his town. He wanted Sheff.

I gotta say I think Vlad tried to pull a Webber on us, you felt from the start he didnīt wanna be here but then as the free agent period started to approach he did say he would mind playing here but I believe that was an attempt by his agent to higher his price, however with some presuadtion we might have gotten him to play here despite the fact that we wernīt his first choice like the Rangers did with Theo Fleury however would Vlad have been as good then if his heart wasnīt 100% set on the Yanks?
Sheff wanted to be here with all his heart IMO and therefore we got him, I think Sheff will come around and we wont miss not having Vlad so much the only thing that irks me is that Vlad is just 28 but like I said I donīt think his heart was set on the Yanks so even if we would have gotten him not sure his numbers would be the same as they are with the Angels.

I must say, the Angels were on a tear when they played the Yankees earlier this season, and they were playing well when Boston came into town...

The Yankees taking 4 of 6 from this Anaheim team is pretty impressive (IMO) especially seeing them put a hurtin' on the Sox like they have...

While I fully expect Boston to be there for most of the season, this Anaheim team is just more scary to me.

You know things aren't going well & your bullpen ain't what you want it to be when you bring in the closer in the *7th inning*! Yup, Foulke is now pitching for the Sox...at least per Sportsline. Tee hee hee.

Hate to use the phrase, but its almost the bullpen by committee idea that they thought up last year. Use your best guy situationally. But can i just say again, godDAMN how much i wish Williamson was NOT on the DL.

I don't view it as bullpen by committee. It's merely maximizing the usefulness of your closer by deploying him at the most critical point in the game.

Obviously, you guys need Williamson as much as the Yanks need Gordon.

I never said that we made him an offer that he 'turned down'.. What I said was that he made it clear 'visave' his Mother/Agent,,,,that he did not want to play for a 'mega-market' team where he would be 'pressured to perform....etc"....Maybe I read different articles than you did,....but I distinctly remember that being part of the reason the Yankees did not pursue him more aggressively.
As for George's signing of Sheff....that was not as easy as George would have liked either....Remember Sheff giving his 'Agent' the 'boot' and holding out for weeks....?....Wow...that took a long time to "type'...

Btw....THE ANGELS ARE KICKING A$$$$.....10 - 7....let's take this other discussion 'off'line' for a moment....:D

Fleury has severe drug and personality problems. I don't think the analogy is apt.

IIRC, the issue that was raised for not pursuing Vlad was his back problems.

While never clearly explained, what you just said was a big part of the bullpen by committee approach. The 'closer' (or best pitcher) would not necessarily close, but be deployed in the most key situation. That was the whole idea. Problem was, we didnt have a best pitcher. Right on about Williamson.

I totally agree. The insistance on saving the 'closer' until the ninth makes no sense when the game is on the line in the 7th. You want your best guy in the most important situation.

Maybe not the analogy is entirely fair on Fleury but what about Kamensky? Quintal? The list of players that wouldnīt have come here if the dollars wasnīt thrown at them can be made endless and those players always dissapointed and regarding Fleury the year before he came to the Rangers he was a wrecking machin, yes he had some problems but not being were he really wanted to be had a huge impact as well.

Actually, the Knicks were on the verge on chaos once Ewing got old, the cap problems got out of hand, and Layden assumed control.

Spoon is horrible. I wouldn't want him for free. How does that compare to signing an all time player like Vlad?

They were still a playoff team tough and that canīt be considered chaos, I mean only the year before had not Camby had those problems they would have at least made the EFC, not chaos by any means.

I wasnīt comparing talents here I was just refering to how players perfore when they are handed alot of money but when their heart is not into it, like Rivaldo in A.C Milan, he just went their for the money and he was benched.
Spoon horrible? Well before he came to the Knicks he was averaging a double double, yes after watching him play for us I wouldnīt want him either but he a 12,5 pts 10 rbs player canīt not be called horrible.
