So, I slummed over to the Mets site to get Yankee/Mets tickets and saw what has to be one of the worst marketing slogans ever for a sports team, "Catch the Energy". WTF does that mean? "Catch/feel the excitement" I get, but "catch the energy"? Yet another reason to be thankful you are a Yankee fan. It is heartening to know that the Mets did not spend any of the money they saved on not signing Vlad on a marketing consultant.

Looking at the prices for Mets tickets, I would not be surprised if they drew less than 2 million fans. They just charge too much for a last place team. If the Wilpon's are going to pretend they own a team in Kansas City they should go the full nine and charge their fans like it.

Baltimore's slogan 2 years ago was "These Kids Can Play!" Although I suppose that's better than actually saying "We Didn't Trade Brady, Surhoff, and Clark When We Had the Chance, We Spent All Our Money on Albert Belle, Cal is Gone, and Now You're Paying $50 a Ticket to See the Bowie Baysox!"

Not a real catchy slogan but I guess it's better than the following choices:

"Don't bother with us, go see the YANKEES."

"We might be better than Tamp Bay this year."

"We need your money, please pay for a ticket."

"There's nothing here to see but you'll love the jet noise."

"Come hear the loudest organ in baseball. It's worth every penny!"

"Join suckfest-04. Yu gunna love it!"

"We hate the greedy SOB Steinbrenner. Give us your money!"

"Come to Shea stadium. The drive to Atlanta is just too long."

"Come to Shea stadium where you might see Barry Bonds or Albert Puljols play!"

"Visit Shea stadium, conveniently located near a large park should your family decide they would like a little recreation while they are in the area."

'Whack! Crack! I love my Diamondbacks.' is a jingle I've heard countless times a season, for a few years at least. I can't change the channel fast enough when it comes on. &po'd&
Haven't heard it yet this year, but I'm sure I will.

When we were little kids my brother and I, probably like all other nine-year-old Yankee fans in New York, made up our own witty lyrics to the Mets jingle:

"Beat the Mets,
Beat the Mets,
Step right up and beat the Mets
They stink
They suck..."

Between "Catch The Energy", and those god-awful flourescent orange jerseys they sport... Seems like the Wilpon's would rather sling Gatorade:dunno:

What can I tell you- we were nine (actually, my brother was 10 and a half, so he probably should have come up with something more clever).

How about in light of their much maligned defense, "Catch The Freakin' Ball!"

When my brother and I were younger he asked me, "Stace if the Yankees are the Bronx Bombers what are the Mets?" So I said, "They are the Flushing Toilets." I was 9 what can I say.

Wow...so many Marylanders in this thread. I live in Germantown. Anyway yeah, a couple years ago the Orioles' slogan really was that. It basically told everyone "Hey we suck, but our stadium is nice and maybe in 5 years we'll be good!" I still have to say Camden Yards is a very nice stadium.
