Billion Dollar brackets ready?

There is no way I'm going to have a perfect bracket but it's nice to dream that Warren Buffett would present me that check.

Billion Dollar brackets ready?

There is no way I'm going to have a perfect bracket but it's nice to dream that Warren Buffett would present me that check.

Have you read what the odds of doing a perfect bracket are?

There are 63 total games in a tournament bracket. For each of those games, two teams play, and one team wins. So, filling out a bracket consists of picking 63 winners.

So, you have two options for the first game, two options for the second game, two options for the third game, and so on, for all 63 games. To get the total number of possible ways to fill out a bracket, you multiply together all 63 of these twos, giving us 263, or about 9.2 quintillion, possible brackets.

Actually, it's more like 1 in 576,460,752,303,423,488

Since Buffett's pool only allows 15,000,000 entries, the chances of the 1 in 576,460,752,303,423,488 person being one of the 15,000,000 is 0.000000003%

That's a little exaggerated, because it assumes that each outcome of every game is equally likely. It factors in a scenario where the Elite-8 is all 15 and 16 seeds with the same weight as an Elite-8 of all 1's and 2's.

Good point.

Ohio State looks about to go down to Dayton. Oh the shame.

My billion dollar dream is dead after one game. Thanks Ohio St!

A 12 beats a 5. Tommy Amaker's Harvard bounces Cincinnati out.

Between Dayton and Harvard, I think Warren Buffett's billion dollars is safe.

I think a lot of people had the Harvard upset, but Dayton was a big surprise.

Only 5% of brackets are still perfect after the first five games.

My dad had both Harvard and Dayton, but got knocked out on BYU/Oregon.

I went 14-2 yesterday. Got the Dayton/OSU, and NC State/St Louis games wrong.

I watched parts of a couple games yesterday (predominately the last half of the 2nd half of the UCONN game). Watching the end of game turning into a parade at the free throw line because a team keeps fouling to manage the clock isn't all that enjoyable.

Looks like Duke is going down in round one to #14 Mercer. I'd imagine there can't be too many people, if there are any, still alive at this point in the Perfect Bracket thing.

Down by 8 points with 5 seconds left and Duke gives a foul. That drives me nuts about college basketball. It's almost impossible to enjoy the end of a game.

Shame about Duke, huh? (wink wink)

It's definitely the worst thing about basketball in general, which is a shame, since the endgame in a close game is so exciting in just about any other sport (and can be in basketball, too.) At least they didn't foul down 7 with .2 seconds left. I wish there was some sort of drastic rule change they could make to address it, but I'm not sure how they'd approach that. I don't really have the hatred for Duke that most seem to. I don't follow college basketball closely, but I don't have any reason to dislike Coach K. When I'm watching these games, I find myself even pulling for them at times, maybe just because I recognize someone on their sideline. I guess I'm a Notre Dame fan by default in college basketball, but in the tournament I generally root for upsets and the underdog more than anything else.

Give credit to the Mercer Bears for making more effective plays and force Duke to a cold-shooting game.

Mercer shot 55.6% from the field and suffocating Duke at 35.5% from the field forcing them to jack up treys.

Mike (dabomb2045), a UNC fan, is stoked.

Evidently, after Duke's loss, 16 people were still alive for the Billion.

Madness indeed. This first rd has been crazy. This right here is why college basketball > NBA. Eve some #16 seeds gave #1 seeds a run for their money.

No way man, I watched every minute! I think the lack of posts has more to do with excited UConn alumni not wanting to celebrate the UConn win in a NYYFANS message board lol.

I have been following most of the tournament (rooting for Kentucky hard), yet completely forgot about the game last night until it turned 11PM. I turned on the game for the last 4 minutes, which is all I needed to see.
