Hope Nadal wins....wanna see him win the "Rafa Slam". We need a cool nickname for that if he does win. "Serena slam" was good, rolled off the tongue nicely.

If he does, then with the French, he could easily win 5 in a row. 5 Slams in a row would be insane.

Rafa Rampage should do the trick.

Rooting for Roddick as always. Nadal winning works for me though because Roddick wont.

I'm torn. I want to see Nadal break Federer's record but at the same times its nice to see guys that have never won a major win.

Rooting for Andy too but you know he'll make his obligatory exit in the quarterfinals if he's even lucky enough to get that far.

As much as I like to see newbies win their first Slam I'd much rather see Nadal keep piling up those titles.

Andy Roddick did win a major: 2003 US Open over Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Roddick also went to four other major finals with the 2009 Wimbledon loss over Roger Federer the closest to his second major with a 5-set loss, 16-14 in the 5th and final set.

No heart from Sam Querrey. Another disappointing 1st round exit for him.

No heart from Sam Querrey. Another disappointing 1st round exit for him.

And Sam Querrey had a 2 sets to 1 lead on Polish player Lukasz Kubot.

But Kubot dominated the 4th set winning 15/19 points on his first serve and was 2 for 2 in break opportunities against the Querrey serve.

A disappointing loss for Sam.

I know. I meant if Roddick can't win (I don't think he will make it past the 4th) it would be nice to see someone who has never won a major win it.

What a great fightback from Mardy Fish.

The #16 seed American was down two sets to none before taking the last three sets in a 5-set victory over Romania's Victor Hanescu 2-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3.

Fish had 70% or more Net Approaches in the final three sets and had a +23 in the winner count in that same span (50 winners including service to 27 unforced errors).

Andy Roddick also advanced in straight sets in 1:40 in his match against Czech Republic's Jan Hajek losing only five games.

Day 1 Results: January 17, 2011

From Yahoo! Sports

Men's Singles
Only one seed is dumped out of the First Round. #18 American Sam Querrey out in five sets to Polish player Lukasz Kubot.

Some close calls for #12 Frenchman Gael Monfils, #16 American Mardy Fish and #25 Spainard Albert Montanes as they needed to go the distance.

Women's Singles
#6 Italian and 2010 French Open winner Francesca Schiavone needed three sets to edge Spainard Arantxa Parra Santonja. The Spainard helped out Schiavone with unforced errors and double faults.

#11 Belgian Justine Henin pushed all the way against India's Sanza Mirza.

But #28 Slovak Daniela Hantuchova and #17 French star Aravane Rezai are bounced out.

Yeah, saw that this morning. The maker of her equipment wont be happy about that.

One day the women wont have to play 7 rounds in the Grand Slams. The first few rounds are too easy for the better players, its pointless.

What happen was that Agnieszka Radwanska slammed her racquet into the ground twice in frustration before that and then it came off later in the third set.

Good stuff. Having time away probably helped her relax a little bit and take the game a little less seriously.

No upsets yet...Unless Monfils losing is considered to be one.

Oh and Venus retired hurt.

Oh well. Go Nadal.

Oh and I woke up at 8 this morning and tried to get the score of the Roddick match. Both ESPN and ESPN News BottomLine decided it was more important to only include college basketball score on "The Lead" and then they had to show the scores of every game twice before the "Tennis" came up. I got tired of waiting I actually used my phone and I still beat ESPN.

The Williams' sisters, Maria Sharapova, Michelle Larcher de Brito, those are screamers.

One half of the women's semifinals is complete.

#9 Chinese heavy hitter Li Na defeated the #30 German dancing train Andrea Petkovic 6-4, 6-2.

Maybe in Roland Garros.

Tabata
01-26-11, 06:37 AM
Yep, Fed will get most of the backing especially now with Rafa out. But he also has his fair share of haters too.

I've put a little money on Murray already. Everything is aligned in his favour now because the only 2 players that can beat him in a 5 setter are out.

If he does, I can see him winning Wimbledon this year also after getting the Grand Slam monkey off his back.

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Kim Clijsters (http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/players/profile?playerId=376) thinks that 2011 will "probably" be her last full year on the tennis tour.

When asked Friday if the Australian Open women's final could be her last appearance at Melbourne Park, the 27-year-old Clijsters replied: "Yeah, it is."

"I know this is probably going to be my last full season on the tour, and then we'll see," Clijsters said ahead of Saturday's final against China's Li Na (http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/players/profile?playerId=208).

Li Na actually controlled the pace but I think the lack of Grand Slam final experience caught her up and it's the difference in the game. Too many unforced errors.

He clearly is the favorite. He has done that on this court, while Murray is still searching his first and he needs to carry massive pressure due to the drought. Having an extra day rest also helps.

But I hope Murray can win it.

Li Na's game on trying to paint the lines did cost her. 40 unforced errors despite having 24 winners.

Winning % on her first serve was also low for Na at 52% while Kim Clijsters had 66%.
