Enzo Masci.

I had a contact from his son (like taking to Babe Ruth Jr) offering to share these photos, so I share them with you.

Enzo played for Nettuno and had 12 rings:)

And, yeah--not sure if this belonged here, but it is sort of ATM---it's just that these majors are a few thousand miles away :D

I edited the title :)

He is the sport's most famous player over there, so in that manner he is indeed Ruthian:)

Here are some modern stats for comparison (Nettuno 2008)

http://schedevita.fibs.it/Default.aspx?ATL=1874

Remember, when Masci was playing, baseball was basically 5 years old there.

Even now, it has just turned 60 ;)

shouldn't this be in outside the lines since it has nothing to do with the major leagues?

Dunno, TBH :o

It is Around the Majors, and this is the majors in Italia.

Will move, if someone has a good suggestion, though:)

I thought there was already an Italian Babe Ruth.

His name is Joe D.

How does one gain icon status when they don't even appear in a Google search?

You know why?

In Italia, they only play on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.:), I believe.

It might be a double header on Saturday, and 1 game on Sunday...

He didn't start playing until he was 30.

Exactly. The American troops brought baseball to Italia during WWII.

Imagine someone throwing you into a game you had never played--that was zip part of your culture, and starting to play at 30.

Best baseball player in Italy? Kind of like being the best banjo player in the Bronx.
