...the bench/utility role previously occupied by Betemit?

They were both non-tendered on friday, so they're free agents.

If not either of them, any thoughts on who we might be looking at for a utility role? :dunno:

Aaron Miles for our setup man. Wigginton is probably looking at four offers of a starting job, so I doubt we get him.

Good point... not alot of 3rd baseman on the market right now, so Wiggy will get a starting gig for sure...

Take a look at Wiggy's 2008 stats:
http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_player_splits.jsp?playerID=421064&statType=1

Saw this mentioned by a couple of beat writers - the home/road splits are awful (Home OPS: 1.081; away OPS: .696)

I know Minute Maid is a hitter's park - but that's downright weird. (Not so weird - from the hitting chart, looks like a dead pull hitter - and he hit a few homers over the short fence in left.)

It was a joke since he pitched for the Cards a few times and did well.

Sarcasm meter was set to low. Didn't know he pulled a Wade Boggs. All I remember is him destroying the Sox in interleague play. I think he went deep off of Matsuzaka on Fox Saturday baseball then got 5 hits the next day.

Wigginton could probably get a starting job somewhere instead of taking a part-time bench role with the Yanks. I do agree that he would be a very good bench player though.
