I've never heard this nick name for Bernie Williams...anyone else or just me? I've actually heard "Bernie Baseball"....not too often but I've heard it.

Yeah I think it was a John Sterling thing, he said "Bern baby Bern" a few times during some of his great games. I used to say it when he was doing well.

It started as a Sterling thing, I think, but didn't they use to show it on the scoreboard when he homered ... complete with flame special effects?

I got Sterlings Autograph coming back to the team hotel in SF...the guy was plastered! The autograph looked like crap on the baseball and when I thanked him he replied, "NOOOOOOOOOOO THAAAAAAAAAAANK YOOOOOOOOU!" then he proceeded to stumble through the lobby.....classic moment man!

I should've said, "Sterling's drunk.....STEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRLING's DRUNK!"

I've heard it tons and tons of times, because it was part of Sterling's home run call. For Bernie's homers Sterling had not one but two annoying catch phrases. First he'd say "Bernie Goes Boom!" followed by "Bern Baby Bern!"

Ok that explains it for me, I only caught Yankee games through ESPN, never through the YES network here on the west coast.

At the Stadium, when Bernie had a big hit/defensive play Disco Inferno would always be played over the sound system. "Burn Baby Burn" became "Bern Baby Bern"...

That song always brings a smile to my face because of that.

Thanks that was a pretty good clip of Bernie.

It's amazing to see how scrawny he was when he started out. Seems like you can say that about most MLB players.

How come the Babe was never a skinny speedy little outfielder when he first broke into the majors?
