Checking the Box Scores, they left 12 runners on base and blew a bases loaded no out opportunity. The Reds have shown why the 1976 team came and swept the World Series. If they can't bring runners home, even the best pitching performance could go to waist.

What the heck does the 1976 World Series have to do with today's game?

OK, so the Yankees beat the Reds in the 1961 WS 4-1. What did the Yankees show you in that WS? Does anyone care?

The numbers don't lie. The Reds pitching dominated the last two games, outscoring the Yankees 10-2. (In 1976 the Reds outscored the Yankees 13-4 in the final two games to finish the sweep). The Yankees are now 1-4 against the Reds in interleague play (1-2 at Cincinatti in 2003). Add the 1976 World Series, that's a dreadful 1-8.

Everything rides on tomorrow's game!

This thread rules.

Little known is that the yanks and reds once scrimmaged in basketball, and the yanks pulled out a win, so in fact the yanks still hold a lead between the two teams, which hardly seems dreadful at all. While the Reds have an opportunity to knot things up tomorrow, with both teams off monday they may have a friendly tomorrow evening (in the spirit of Euro 2008 of course) as a rubber match if it comes to that.

What the heck does the 1976 World Series have to do with today's game?OK, Mr. Smartypants, I'll tell you exactly what the 1976 WS had to do with today's game: Ken Griffey.

The offense was a big reason for the 7 game winning streak. The Yankees scored at least 8 runs in 4 of those games. In the last 3 games, they scored 2 or less. The lack of offense puts a strain on the pitchers because then even a one or two run hole seems difficult to surmount and gives them little room for error.

That pretty much sums up your whole season right.

The offense was a big reason for the 7 game winning streak.

During the 7 game winning streak.....1.71 ERA

And when the offense scores 4 or less runs we are 3-2 in the past 9 games.

A team gets some luck with opposing bad defense and all of a sudden they are giant killers.

The Reds won that one.
